In a society of constant change we observe the recognition of other educational resources and modalities within lifelong learning. From a comprehensive posture we seek to analyze the voluntary activities as an example of non-formal education. Volunteering is the source of personal development and acquisition and development of new skills and competencies. We will take into the account the recognition of non-formal learning through volunteer work, particularly through the tools developed by different French institutions in order to recognize and value the volunteers’ engagements. The selection of skills translates different conceptions of the tools, sometimes even contradictory. Some of them prefer mote technical skills and the others select skills related to the personal development and openness to others. The associations play a fundamental role in the learning of young volunteers. The recognition of the skills and competencies of volunteers is essential as a motivating factor and especially to create bridges between volunteering and education.
